D2S fam REL is dropping his debut album Orchestration on DJ Vinroc’s That’s That Records on July 27th (which will be available on iTunes).

I’m really proud of him and I’m excited for everyone to hear what he’s been working on for a while now. Bananas!

Orchestration is a project that REL has been working on for the past year. Many know REL as the TV host of the Bay Area Hip Hop television show ‘Distortion 2 Static’ but he is also skilled on the beats. Prince Aries interviews REL to get the low down.

PRINCE ARIES: Oh shit you make beats?
REL: Yes I’ve been making beats for a while now.

PRINCE ARIES: So what exactly is Orchestration?
REL: All my beats, mixed by DJ Haylow… The theme behind it is basically, im the composer and Haylow is that guy waving the stick. The album is dropping on 07.27.09 on Thats That Label.

PRINCE ARIES: Waiving the stick? Pause.
REL: The conductor or whatever.

PRINCE ARIES: How long have you been working on this project?
REL: None of the beats on the album is more than a year old… I just gave Haylow a CD of about 30 of my favorite beats and he put it together.

PRINCE ARIES: Ok ok, so what made you want to release it like this? Why not just an instrumental album?
REL: I was going to at first but I’ve always liked the way Haylow mixed and hes known for his mixtapes. so i said fuck it, and he wanted to do it too.

PRINCE ARIES: What do you want people to get from this album?
REL: I just want people to hear it and take it how they want. All of these beats were made cause I was feeling a certain way, and it has a different impact on different people… Just enjoy it!

PRINCE ARIES: What can we expect from the release party? Whos djing? Wheres it at?
REL: You can expect to hear the entire album from beginning to end. DJing is Vinroc, Haylow, Prince Aries, and Beats Me… Playing nothing but instrumentals all night. I think its gonna be at Azul and you can expect me to be intoxicated.
